Course styles available in the UK

There are two main undergraduate degrees offered in the United Kingdom, the first is a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc). This degree focuses on combining theory to research practice and is mainly offered to students of engineering, technology, mathematics, hospitality and medicine.

The other main degree offered in the UK is a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, which focuses on theoretical concepts. This degree is mainly offered to students of liberal arts, humanities, or languages. An exception is in traditional universities, such as Oxford or Cambridge, where BA degrees are offered for all areas of study.

The UK offers many opportunities for postgraduate study. Taught courses are very popular and can take 1-2 years to complete with a dissertation or project. These courses are led by a tutor and involve attending regular seminars and lectures. Several types of master’s degrees involve taught courses, such as Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc) or Master of Business Administration (MBA). Students can also apply for an integrated master’s degree, which follows directly from an undergraduate course.

Postgraduate degrees can cost considerably more.
